Description
Hunston House is a house built in 1796, with alterations made around 1844. It is constructed of red brick with a front finished in lined stucco, and features a slate roof with stone-coped gables and two yellow brick gable stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan, is two storeys high plus attics, and has a three-bay front. The central entrance is a 20th-century door set beneath a 19th-century canted porch, flanked by two 19th-century canted bays with plain sash windows.
On the first floor, the central bay is slightly advanced and has its own gable with moulded kneelers. It features a central plain sash window, with single glazing bar sashes on either side. In the gable, there is a rectangular plaque that reads, "This building erected by Messrs. John Ayre, Wm. Blaydwin, Wm Atkins, Edwd Hennings, Trustees to the late Mr Edwd Hunston, 1796." The roof includes two glazing bar sash dormers with rendered cheeks and lead roofs.
The Edward Hunston Charity, which was established by endowment in 1655, still administers the farm, with profits used to assist farmers in need.
