Description

The Allenby Almshouses are a group of six almshouses built in 1869 by James Fowler of Louth. They are constructed from red brick with ashlar dressings and feature a slate roof adorned with decorative ridge tiles, along with two ridge stacks and four tall wall stacks. The almshouses are arranged in a single terrace with paired entrances. The building is single storey and has a 12 bay front with a plinth. Each pair of entrances is topped with two gables and has stepped buttresses that end in short coped piers. The doors are half glazed and set within moulded Tudor brick surrounds, which have blank ashlar shields above them. Flanking each entrance are single two-light casements that feature moulded brick surrounds, ashlar cills, and lintels with painted stone hoods. Between the central pair of doors is an ashlar plaque that commemorates the erection of the almshouses by Everitt Allenby, Esq. in 1869.
