Description
Henry Godson's Almshouses are a pair of almshouses built in 1886. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with some ashlar dressings, and feature slate roofs with raised stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. The building has two wall stacks and a single ridge stack, all square with moulded tops.
The front is two storeys high and consists of eight bays, with the end bays being advanced and separately gabled. These have a plinth and a hobnail decorated eaves course. In the centre of the ground floor, there are two three-light windows, a single light window beyond, and another three-light window. On the first floor, there are two gabled dormers with two-light windows at the centre, flanked by single two-light windows in the gables. All windows are latticed cast-iron casements set in pointed surrounds with projecting brick heads, square on the sides and pointed at the centre.
The doors and central windows are sheltered by a pent slate roof supported by openwork wooden brackets and a single cast iron pillar. On the left side, there is an ashlar datestone inscribed with 'Henry Godson's Almshouses 1886'.
