Description

This is a house, originally built around 1730 and later altered in the late 19th century and the 20th century. It now functions as two separate houses and a shop, arranged in a T-shaped layout. The exterior is red brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, topped with a slate roof and featuring two brick gable stacks. The two-storey, five-bay front has an ashlar plinth and a band running along the first floor. A 20th-century glazed porch now covers the original central entrance, which contains reset early 18th-century double raised and fielded panel doors. Two plain sash windows are located on the left side, and a pent-roofed shop front with a central half-glazed door flanked by large plain windows is on the right. Five plain sash windows are on the first floor. All windows have flat brick arched heads. Inside, the altered early 18th-century staircase remains, with a carved string, panelled underside, and widely spaced reset knopped and turned balusters. The staircase was modified in the late 19th century with a carved newel post and the removal of most of the balusters. A few displaced pieces of raised and fielded panelling also survive.
