Description
The urn at the west end of the Church of St. Edith is a late 18th-century structure made from limestone ashlar. It features an urn positioned on a square pedestal with a stepped top, adorned with decorative linen swags, wreaths, and a band of acanthus leaves, topped with a domed feature. On the east side of the urn, there is an oval cartouche that contains an inscription commemorating John Nelthorpe of Little Grimsby Hall. The urn and pedestal are set on a stone platform that includes two recumbent slabs from the late 18th century, which mark the resting place of members of the Nelthorpe family, covering a vault beneath.
