Description
The stable block at Brackenborough Hall dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made around 1855 to 1860. It is constructed of red brick, with some limestone and greenstone rubble, and features limestone ashlar dressings. The roofs are covered with pantiles and are half hipped on the north and east sides. There is a single tall brick lateral stack on the west side and a bellcote with a square plan, pyramidal roof, bell, and weathervane.
The stable block has a two-storey, five-bay south front, which includes two bays under a single gable with a finial on the left. The base features a fragmentary rubble plinth. The central carriage archway has an overlight and a raised ashlar keystone, with two windows on each side. Each window has brick wedge lintels, raised ashlar keystones, sliding sashes, and fixed upper lights. Above the archway, there is a single window on the left with a brick wedge lintel, raised keystone, fixed upper light, and slatted shuttering below, along with a clock above.
The carriage arch leads to a passage that provides access to the stables, tack rooms, and loose boxes, which were refaced and altered in the 19th century.
