Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and an extension added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with yellow brick details, featuring a rendered front from the 18th century and a roof made of diminishing coursed slate, along with gable and ridge stacks.

The layout is a parallel range plan, comprising two storeys plus attics. The main 18th-century section has five bays, a plinth, and a gable band. It includes two glazed doors and three tall glazing bar sash windows, all sheltered by an early 17th-century verandah supported by pressed cast iron columns with circles in the spandrels and a shaped lead roof. On the first floor, there are five glazing bar sash windows, and the roof features two leaded dormers with glazing bar sashes.

To the left, there is a canted 19th-century triple bay with a hipped slate roof, containing three glazing bar sashes on each floor and a gabled dormer in the roof. At the rear right, there is a first-floor ballroom with two large margin light sash windows. The left side of the building has a gabled range with two glazing bar sashes on each floor, the upper window featuring a polychromatic herringbone tympanum. Adjacent to this is a gabled two-storey porch with similar design details.

Inside, there is an early 19th-century staircase with turned balusters and a wreathed handrail, along with 19th-century bookcases. The right-hand bedroom boasts full-height 18th-century panelling, matching cupboards, a cornice, and a wooden fireplace surround.
