Description

No. 1 Tower Street is a house built in the late 19th century. It features red brick quoins, reveals, panels, and bands, with the spaces in between filled with small, almost flint-like panels of ironstone, accented by yellow brick crosses and diamonds. The slate roof has decorative finials and includes a single ridge and wall stacks. The house is designed in an L-shape on a corner site.

The exterior has two storeys with an attic, showcasing brick dentilled eaves. The frontage facing Irby Place includes, on the left, a tall full-height canted bay with a single casement window on each face. On the right, there is a single-storey square bay window with a battlemented parapet, featuring two sashes divided by a brick pier and narrower side sashes. On the first floor, there are three similar windows on the canted end and a single casement above the bay window. At the top of the canted section, there are three small lights at eaves level and a single gabled dormer in the canted hipped roof.

Facing Tower Street, there is a gabled section with a single casement window on each floor, the attic window having a rounded head. To the right is a half-glazed entrance door with an overlight and a casement window above. Further to the right is a lower two-storey rear wing with a single casement window on each floor. The windows are two-light casements with plain overlights and segmental arches made of alternating red and blue bricks.

The property is included for its group value with No. 6 Irby Place.
