Description

No. 71 Stafford Street is a mid-18th century house that has been divided into multiple units. It is built of red brick and features a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a coved stone eaves cornice. The left gable end is parapeted and has chamfered sandstone coping and a shaped kneeler. There is an integral brick stack on the left and an external brick stack on the right.

A large central hipped eaves dormer on the roof contains two sets of casements, with the left being metal and the right wooden, arranged in a 2-+3-light configuration. The house has two bays, with first-floor windows featuring glazing bar sashes, including a tripartite window on the right, all with painted gauged-brick heads and painted stone sills.

On the ground floor, there is a canted bay window to the right with three glazing bar sashes, a frieze, and a moulded gutter. The door on the left has six raised and fielded panels, topped by a Gothick three-part rectangular overlight. It is sheltered by a wooden Gothick porch supported by clustered shafts, which also features an architrave, an arcaded frieze, and a moulded cornice, with two stone steps leading up to it.

On the left gable end, there is a blocked first-floor window with a raised band above it, and an attic oculus to the right with a centre-hung casement. The interior has not been inspected and is not likely to be of interest.
