Description

Tudor Cafe is a house that has been converted into a café. It dates from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th century. The building features a timber frame with plastered infill panels, some of which are rendered, set on a painted sandstone rubble plinth. Parts of the structure have been refaced or rebuilt in red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles and the building has two or three framed bays that run at right angles to the road. It is one storey high with an attic and has a truncated brick ridge stack.

The café has a modern three-light attic casement window and a central ground-floor window that is a small-paned wooden casement, both from the 20th century. To the left, there is a 20th-century small-paned glazed door, which is framed by an early 19th-century doorcase featuring reeded pilaster strips, a frieze, and a cornice. On the right-hand side, there is a gabled eaves dormer with a 2-light wooden casement. At the rear, there is an 18th-century addition that includes a dentil brick eaves cornice and a gabled eaves dormer on the left-hand return front, which also has a 2-light wooden casement. A late 20th-century flat-roofed addition has been added to the northeast. Although the interior was not inspected, a pair of chamfered beams were noted in the ground-floor front room.
