Description

Brooklyn House is a house, now also used as a doctor's surgery, dating to the mid-to-late 18th century. The house is constructed of red brick, with the right-hand gable end rendered. It has a double-depth plan and a two-span plain tile roof. The house is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic. A plat band and dentil brick eaves cornice are present. Brick ridge stacks are situated off-centre to the left and right, with a rear range featuring brick end stacks, the one on the left being visible externally.

The front facade has four bays on one side and one bay on the other, featuring glazing bar sashes with painted stone cills, and rusticated painted stone lintels incorporating a raised keystone. First-floor sashes, and two ground-floor sashes, are set within exposed boxes. Two ground-floor sashes flank a doorway, likely cut down in the early 19th century. One ground-floor sash is painted to resemble the others. The doorway, positioned in the second bay from the left, has a pair of three-panelled doors, a fanlight with intersecting Gothic tracery, and a wooden doorcase with chamfered rustications, a moulded impost band, a moulded architrave, and a pair of flanking pilasters supporting an open triangular pediment. A fire insurance plate (number 70014) is located between the second and third first-floor windows from the left.

Remains of former railed enclosures are located in front of the house; only two short segments flanking the doorway now survive, along with plain railings and standards topped with urn finials. The left-hand gable end has two plat bands and contains one bay with a ground-floor and first-floor four-pane sash, as well as an attic oculus. The right-hand gable end features first-floor and attic glazing bar sashes, and a ground-floor half-glazed door with an inserted window to its right. The interior has not been inspected.
