Description
A terrace of four houses, with some incorporating ground-floor shops, was built in the mid-18th century and subsequently altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of red/brown brick with a pantile roof, featuring brick coped gables to each end. There are two gable stacks, the right-hand one reduced in height, and a single ridge stack.
The exterior presents a 12-bay facade with a first-floor brick band and moulded fascia. Number 14 retains a pair of glazing bar sashes to the ground floor. The original entrance to number 14 has a six-panelled door with a 20th-century doorcase and hood. To the left is a 20th-century shop window and doorway, and to the right, a 19th-century shop front and an early 19th-century panelled door and door surround. Further along is a 20th-century panelled door and door surround, accompanied by a 20th-century three-light shop front with fascia and cornice. The first floor has six glazing bar sashes to the left and six plain sashes to the right. All windows are topped by brick segmental arches. The roofline has seven leaded dormer windows, some with casements and others with small glazing bar sashes. Rear extensions consist of single-storey kitchen blocks.
The interiors retain narrow stick baluster staircases and panelled doors. Group value is derived from its contribution to the historic streetscape.
