Description
49 High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of red brick and features an old plain tiled roof, with brick coped gables and stacks.
The exterior consists of three storeys plus attics, with a three-bay front that has a dentilled timber cornice. On the left side, there is a 19th-century plain plastered doorcase with a plain frieze and hood, which contains a four-panel door and a plain overlight. To the right, there are two plain sash windows. The first and second floors each have three similar windows, all with brick segmental arches. In the attic, there are two 2-light casement dormers with segmental lead roofs.
The interior has been largely modernised, but it still retains two contemporary fireplaces and an eared and shouldered overmantel featuring a painting of sailing boats, located in the front rooms on the ground and first floors.
