Description
This property comprises a house and former public house, now a club. The house dates to the 18th century, while the public house section has origins in the 15th century, with alterations occurring in the 19th and 20th centuries. The construction is timber frame with brick infill and colourwashed brick, topped with a Welsh slate roof.
Number 25 is a two-storey, four-bay fronted building. The ground floor has two 20th-century entrance doors set within brick pillars. The first floor is jettied, displaying a wall plate, five vertical posts, and curved end braces exposed between the brick infill. It features two 20th-century casement windows. Deep overhanging eaves are supported by curved brackets, and a deep fascia conceals a lead gutter.
Number 23 is a three-storey, five-bay fronted building with a modillioned eaves cornice. The ground floor was reconstructed in the 20th century and has three fixed glazing bar windows with segmental brick heads. The first floor features a central 20th-century casement flanked by single 19th-century canted oriel windows with flat lead roofs, the outlines of earlier window openings are visible. The second floor contains five 20th-century casement windows with brick segmental heads.
The interior has not been inspected. A timber-framed rear wing was demolished in 1979. It was formerly the Saracens Head and is first mentioned as an inn in 1564.
