Description
The Frampton War Memorial Obelisk is located in a small garden at the corner of Thorniman Lane and Middlegate Road, approximately 13 meters southwest of Memorial Cottage, which is also a listed building. This memorial, made of Cornish granite, stands 3.7 meters tall and is set on a square concrete base within a grassed roadside enclosure. It features a square base, a tapering square plinth that bears an inscription, and a four-sided, pyramidal obelisk that rises above.
The inscription is located on the eastern face of the memorial, which faces the road. It is presented in raised lead lettering painted black and reads: "ERECTED/ IN MEMORY OF/ THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR KING AND COUNTRY IN/ THE GREAT WARS/ 1914-1918/ (16 NAMES)/ 1939-1945 (1 NAME)." Additionally, the name of the masonry firm, G.MAILE & SON, is recorded in small metal letters on the southern face of the memorial, indicating their location on Euston Road in London.
