Description
Memorial Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, partly in English bond, and features a pantile roof with brick crow-stepped gables and moulded kneelers. At the rear, there is a large wall stack with a pair of diamond set shafts on a plinth, adorned with brick dogtoothing. The cottage is a single storey plus attics, presenting a three-bay front with a dogtooth eaves course. The eaves have been raised by three courses following the removal of thatch.
An advanced porch, also featuring crow-stepped gables, is supported by rusticated piers that hold a semi-circular arch with brick dogtoothing. In the gable, there is a shield plaque displaying the Moores/Coney crest. The side walls contain two narrow semi-circular headed openings. The entrance features a planked door, with single 19th-century three-light leaded casements on either side, which have chamfered stone mullions and tiled hoods. The roof is enhanced by two 20th-century gabled dormers.
