Description

This is a late 17th-century farmhouse, altered in 1723 with minor 20th-century modifications. It is constructed of red/brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a steeply pitched concrete tiled roof. The roof has brick coped tumbled gables and four brick gable stacks. The building is arranged in parallel ranges and consists of two storeys plus a garret, with a five-bay front. A first-floor band and wooden dentillated eaves are visible. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with a blank traceried fanlight, panelled reveals, a moulded eared surround, a fretted frieze, a leaded hood, flanked by pairs of plain sash windows. The first floor has five similar windows, all with painted flat brick arched heads. A lead rainwater hopper inscribed “RTE 1723” is located on the right-hand side, indicating the date of the re-roofing and refenestration. A blocked garret light of 17th-century form is set within the left-hand gable. The interior includes a 20th-century staircase utilizing 18th-century turned balusters. Features include a chamfered beam with an ogee stop, dado panelling in the front rooms and shutters. The roof structure has pegged clasped purlins.
