Description

This is a 17th-century cottage located at 56 and 58 New Street, Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe. The front of the property is of limited architectural interest. The building is oriented at a 90-degree angle to the street, and is timber framed with a thatched roof that is hipped at the rear. The timber frame has six panels high by four across, and three panels deep, resting on a stone plinth. The panel infill is a combination of brick and stone. A late 17th or 18th-century extension in red brick, also resting on a stone plinth and under the same thatched roof, joins the timber-framed section. A ridge stack is situated at the junction of these two parts. The cottage has one and a half storeys, with a variety of 19th and 20th-century casement windows and a door.
