Description
The former Harley Grammar School, founded by Thomas Harley in 1670, is located adjacent to Harley House and is oriented gable to the street. The building is constructed of uncoursed rubble and consists of one storey with an attic. The gable front features a central doorway with a plain moulded architrave, flanked by a window on each side, which has paired trefoil-headed mullions with ornate latticed glazing bars. Above the door, there is a depiction of the Harley arms set beneath a curved broken pediment, which is decorated with a foliate frame. Below this, an inscription tablet is supported by consoles and an angel-headed bracket. The gable is coped and has kneelers. The side elevation includes a string course that forms hoodmoulds over two paired traceried mullioned windows.
