Description
Measham Lodge is a house from the earlier 18th century, with wings added around 1800. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring brick dentilled eaves and a twin span roof covered with 20th-century tiles, along with four rebuilt end stacks. The right wing has a slate roof. The main front is two storeys high and has three windows on the first floor, which are three-light casements with a central two-light window, all fitted with top lights. Above this is a central oeil-de-boeuf window. The ground floor has three two-over-two sash windows, one of which was added around 1800. There is a 20th-century canopied doorcase with an overlight. To the left end, there is a one-storey extension. The side-facing wing is two storeys high, featuring an original blank window on the upper level and a two-over-two sash window below. The end of the wing has a dentilled pediment band and a recessed giant arch below, with a gauged brick arch and tripartite two-over-two, six-over-six, and two-over-two sash windows on both floors. At the rear, there is an early 19th-century extension with a plain tiled roof and a ridge stack, which has two storeys of two three-light casements with cambered lintels. The rear of the main range mirrors the front, with a sash window replacing the three-light window and a 20th-century porch. Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase, six-panelled doors, exposed beams, and two inglenooks. The wing is likely the only remaining example of the use of Measham gobs on an elegant house that is still uncovered.
