Description
This is a row of three workers' houses located at 55-59 Clapgun Street, built in the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with a slate roof and feature brick chimneys. They stand three storeys high and have cellars, with a total of four bays. The eaves are adorned with dentil detailing.
The right bays contain three-pane sash windows, while the left bay has been widened to accommodate four-pane sashes. The second bay has blind window panels, and the top floor windows are square in shape. On the ground floor, the window in the third bay has been replaced with a canted oriel window that includes glazing bars. The blind bay features a boarded door leading to a passage, which is topped by a depressed brick arch. This is flanked by 20th-century doors set within 19th-century wooden architrave frames. To the right, there is a six-panelled door in a similar frame. The houses also have three cellar grilles, and the rear includes a horizontal sash window in the top floor loft.
