Description

The Old House Conference Centre is a mid-19th century building, originally a house and now serving as a school. It is sometimes attributed to the architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, although there is no evidence to support this claim. The structure is built from Charnwood granite rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring Swithland slate roofs and ridge and lateral chimney stacks made of Charnwood granite.

Designed in the Gothic style, the building has two storeys and an eight-window range with balanced asymmetrical elevations that are buttressed. It includes mullioned windows with four-centred arch-headed lights and an arched doorway located to the left of the centre. Decorative square panels with quatrefoils are present, along with a string course that extends over the first-floor windows. The building has a parapet and an L-plan roof behind lath gabled dormers. On the left side at the first floor level, there is a chapel that is highlighted by a bellcote on the gable. The garden front features gables and two canted bay windows, with the left bay window being two storeys high.
