Description

Abbots Oak is a house dating from around 1860, constructed of Charnwood granite rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof, featuring ridge and end stacks. The main two-storey range has three crow-stepped gabled projections on the right-hand side, topped with heraldic beasts. A central projection contains an arched doorway with carved spandrels bearing ivy, the initials "T.N", and the inscription "Peace be to this house". The windows are mullioned, some with transoms. A castellated tower, originally with a tall pyramidal roof, is situated at the rear, along with a conical-roofed stair turret. A rear range was added in the early 20th century.

Inside, the house features two panelled rooms and a richly-carved staircase in a Jacobean Revival style. A florid cross, set on a base with carved heads between miniature gables, is located in the flower bed in front of the house.
