Description
The mausoleum, located 450 meters south-west of Belvoir Castle, was built between 1826 and 1828 by architects Benjamin and Philip Wyatt. Constructed from limestone, it features a single storey in the Norman style, with a rectangular shape and an entrance on the north-east side. The entrance has a central round arch decorated with zig-zag patterns and other ornamentation, flanked by blind Norman arches on either side, each with one order of shafts. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is known to contain notable Norman-style masonry and a spectacular altar-tomb dedicated to the fifth Duchess, created in 1825 by M.C. Wyatt. The roof is not visible due to the surrounding parapets.
