Description
This sculpture depicting Winter is located in the Belvoir Castle Sculpture Garden and dates from around 1680. It was created by the sculptor Caius Gabriel Cibber. The sculpture is made of stone and features a square pedestal adorned with drapery festoons, carved fruit, and flowers. Above the pedestal, there is a cornice with a dentil course and an egg and dart frieze. The figure of Winter is bearded and closely wrapped, warming its hands over a warming dish, which is placed on a draped urn. This sculpture is one of seven statues in the garden.
