Description
This sculpture depicts Pomona, the Goddess of Fruit, and is located in the Belvoir Castle Sculpture Garden. Created around 1680 by the artist Caius Gabriel Cibber, it is made of stone and features a square pedestal with recessed panels, each adorned with grotesque carved heads, including Medusa. The pedestal is topped with a cornice that has a dentil course and an egg and dart frieze. The figure of Pomona is partly clothed and is presented in a serpentine pose while holding a wicker basket filled with fruit. At her feet sits a monkey. This sculpture is one of seven statues in the garden.
