Description
Japonica Cottage and an adjoining bakehouse, now a house, date from the early 18th century and the 19th century, with 20th-century alterations. The walls are of coursed and squared ironstone, with pantile roofing. There are two brick ridge stacks, and a gable with a stone finial. The south front, facing the street, has a centrally placed 19th-century six-panel door, the upper two panels glazed, set within a wooden lintel and a tent-roofed porch. To the left of the door is a three-light casement window with a wooden lintel and louvred shutters. To the right is a similar three-light casement. Further to the right is another three-light casement, and then a 19th-century lean-to porch with a close-boarded door. Above the ground floor, to the left, is a two-light casement window with a wooden lintel. To the right is a close-boarded loading door flanked by single two-light casement windows. The west side has a casement window with a wooden lintel to the left, and a blocked opening to the right. Above, to the left, a two-light sliding sash window, and to the right, a blocked opening.
