Description
Egerton Lodge is a building from 1829, constructed on the site of an earlier house. It is attributed to the architect Wyatt and was designed as a hunting lodge for Lord Wilton. The structure features coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, showcasing a Jacobean style with a symmetrical facade. The outer gables have finials and are flanked by a parapet that has been cut down at the center, also adorned with finials. The slate roof has coped gable ends and linked stone stacks. The building stands two storeys tall, with gables that display stone plaques. On the first floor, there are three-light sash windows, while the ground floor features angled stone bays with three sashes each. The center of the facade includes a large two-storey bay with four sashes, and all windows have glazing bars. There are later extensions to the rear and eastern side of the building.
Egerton Lodge, along with its raised terrace, the archway in its eastern garden wall, Lady Wilton's Bridge including the Horse Wash, Leicester Road, and Nos 29 to 33 (odd) High Street, form a group of buildings of local interest.
