Description

Lady Wilton's Bridge, built from ashlar, features a parapet that rises towards the center and has a band below. It consists of five segmental arches, which are graduated in size with the largest arch in the center. Cutwaters and piers between the arches terminate in pyramidal caps on the parapet. There are wrought iron scrolled lamp brackets at each end of the bridge. Earlier 19th century maps refer to it as 'Eye Kettleby Bridge'. Adjacent to the bridge is a former horse wash, which is flanked by rusticated stone walls and has a partly exposed cobbled surface leading down to the river from Leicester Street. The end pier of the wall is made of ashlar and features a moulded cap and cornice. Lady Wilton's Bridge and the horse wash are part of a group that includes Egerton Lodge, its raised terrace, the archway in its eastern garden wall, Wilton Street, and Nos 29 to 33 (odd) High Street, which are of local interest.
