Description

The Henry Ward Bickley memorial, located approximately 5 metres north of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Peckleton, is a Grade II listed chest tomb commemorating Henry Ward Bickley, who died in 1820. The memorial is made of stone and features a tapering sarcophagus with rounded ends, set on a double plinth. It has paired standards on the main sides with rounded heads, and a pedimented section between them over a frieze decorated with a Vitruvian Scroll design. There is a central square pedestal, which may have originally supported a finial, and this was rendered at the time of the resurvey in February 1988.
