DUNTON BASSETT BENNETTS HILL (North East Side) No.4 (Manor Farmhouse)
GV II
House. Late C16 or early C17. Timber framed with brick panel infill. Plain tiled roof, replacing thatch. Two storeys, T-plan, with main range at right angles to street. This range is raised on a granite plinth, with sill beam and post and truss construction. Continuous vertical posts with two middle rails and curved arched braces at the angles. The gable wall is three panels wide and the total length is nine panels. Queen strut with collar and upper V-strut roof truss visible in gable apex. Two light casement windows in the gable end and also on the inner wall. Gable and axial stacks. The wing is probably at least partially of similar construction although of a timber frame, only the wall plate is visible beneath the render. Outer doorway and new oriel bay window with a three light casement in eyebrow dormer above. Coped gable, corbelled out, with stack. Beyond this is an additional bay of less height which is of less interest and excluded from the schedule.
