Description
Brazenhead is a house dating from the late 16th century and early 17th century. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging, a brick and flint plinth, and an old tile roof. The building has an irregular H-plan layout, with a central framed bay surrounded by three framed bays to the north-west and two framed bays to the south-east. It includes twin gabled wings on the south-west side and stands two storeys tall.
The south-west front showcases curved braces and exposed queen post trusses in the gable ends. There is a ridge stack to the right and a large ridge stack to the left, which has a central square shaft flanked by two diamond shafts and a moulded plaque to the north-west. An end stack is located to the left at the rear. Each floor of the right-hand gable end has a three-light diamond leaded casement, while the left-hand gable end features a first-floor three-light diamond leaded casement above a ground-floor six-light mullioned and transomed window. The recessed centre has a first-floor three-light diamond leaded casement and a ground-floor boarded door with a 16th-century chamfered frame, accompanied by a lean-to timber porch.
The north-west front is notable for its early 19th-century Gothick oriel windows. Inside, there is a late 16th-century staircase in the central bay and well-crafted 16th-century chamfered doorframes in the right-hand bays.
