Description

This is a town house, later divided into three shops with accommodation above, built in the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick with a roof that is hidden from view. It is three storeys high and originally presented a symmetrical three-window facade on the upper floors. The front is characterised by four large, paired pilasters with capitals decorated with anthemion motifs and an incised Greek-key pattern. A dentilled cornice runs along the top, surmounted by a parapet that is slightly raised and projects to the centre, forming a shallow pediment, and to the sides. On the second floor, the side windows are tripartite sash windows with renewed glazing bars; a renewed casement window is centrally located in the original opening, all set within moulded surrounds. The ground-floor windows on the first floor are taller and have moulded cornices supported by consoles, with iron railings on either side, and a segmental pediment above the central window. The original window openings have been fitted with renewed casements. The ground floor has been altered in the 20th century, but some original panelled pilasters, reveals, and dentillation remain. Contemporary outbuildings are located at the rear.
