Description
This is a pair of shops, originally a house, dating from the early to mid-18th century. The building is constructed of plastered brick, with the roof hidden behind a parapet. It rises three storeys and features moulded cill bands beneath the first and second floors, and a cornice to the coped parapet. End stacks and a further stack are located to the left of the centre. The front elevation has a regular six-window arrangement, with the two central bays recessed. The wing on the left is wider than that on the right. The two right-hand bays have moulded window surrounds, with those on the first floor featuring "ears." All windows are sashes, except for the two leftmost bays, which have 20th-century casements. A central moulded segmental arch on the ground floor is adorned with a lion’s head keystone, leading to a yard at the rear. To the right is a panelled, antae-flanked glazed door, and a blocked doorway is located to the left. Early 20th-century shopfronts are present on both the left and right, the right shopfront featuring an inset door to the left. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
