Description

The Springs is a house that likely dates back to the 16th century, with extensions made in the 18th and early 19th centuries, along with some minor later alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick cladding and slate roofs. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a roof that is hipped to the south and returns on the east and west sides, creating a twin span roof. There is a ridge stack to the south from the 17th century, along with an end stack to the north.

The windows are arranged irregularly on the first and ground floors, with a single window in the garret. Most of the windows are 12 and 16-pane sashes. In the center, there is a Doric-columned porch that is slightly angled between the blocks, featuring a panelled door and a plain fanlight above. The front of the house facing Rugby Road has a regular two-window range, with three of the windows being 16-pane hornless sashes and one being a tripartite sash, all set under segmental heads.

Inside, the first floor reveals an exposed frame that likely dates back to the 16th century, showcasing heavily jowled posts. The upper crucks in the roof are halved and jointed at the ridge.
