Description
The Animal Feed Mill at Halstead House is a farmbuilding dating from around 1870. It is constructed of brick and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high. Inside, there are four principal posts that once supported a wind machine. On the first floor, there is a set of peak stones on a hurst frame, which is driven by a pair of bevel gears, one of which has wooden teeth. These gears are powered by belts from horizontal shafting. Although much of the machinery has been removed, various belt wheels remain, and the line shafting is still in place, along with indications of the footstep bearing. There is a slot in the wall that may have been used for drive from an external power source or to power equipment like a threshing machine outside. The ground floor features a cart entrance in the north gable, located directly beneath a sack hoist leading to the stone floor above.
