Description

Old School, built in 1844, is a school located on the east side of Main Street in Tilton on the Hill. It is a small single-storey building made of coursed ironstone rubble and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The structure features three bays and has 12-light windows with drop-ended hoodmoulds. The ornate southwest gabled wall has a coped gable and a prominent centerpiece resembling a buttress. Above the doorway, which is set in a later porch with a rounded archway, there is a round and illegible inscription stone placed in a lozenge shape. Small lancet windows are positioned on either side of the entrance.
