Description
The White House is a late 17th-century house that has been converted into flats. A plaque with a Hebrew inscription dated 1694 can be found on the rear staircase projection. The building was recased in the late 18th century and is rendered and painted white, with a hipped concrete pantile roof at the north end.
It stands three storeys tall and has a double fronted design with a 1-1-1 window arrangement. The centre of the building projects under a pediment. The entrance features an open pedimented stone Doric doorcase supported by engaged columns, with a round-headed door recess that contains a six-panel door topped by a radiating fanlight. The central first floor has a Venetian window with blocked side lights, while the central second floor features a Diocletian window. The ground floor has full height sash windows with 15 panes and 12 panes, while the first floor has windows with 6 panes, and the second floor has 6-pane windows. Stone window heads with double keystones are present throughout.
To the right side, there is a two-storey wing that reaches the full height of the main block and has a three-window range. The building has a corbelled eaves cornice and a band between the ground and first floors. On the rear (east) elevation, there is a pedimented Ionic doorcase, although the doorway is now blocked, the rectangular fanlight with glazing bars remains. Raised bands are visible between the storeys.
