Description
42 and 44 Loughborough Road is a timber-framed building of medieval origin that has been converted into two houses. It features a stone plinth and square panel framing, with some angle braces. The infilling is primarily brick, though some panels of wattle and daub remain. The different heights of the timber framing suggest that the lower left-hand side of the building may be older. Near the center of the facade, the timber framing is interrupted by a brick wall that extends to the roof, possibly indicating the location of a former cross wing. The building has a thatched roof with varying eaves heights and chimneys located above the second and fourth bay divisions. It is 1½ and 2-storeys tall, with six ground floor windows, mostly casements with glazing bars. There are garage doors on the right-hand side and a modern brick addition on the left-hand side.
