Description
Emmanuel Church is a church built between 1835 and 1837 by Thomas Rickman, with a one-bay chancel extension and a vestry added to the south in 1909. It is constructed of Derbyshire sandstone and has slate roofs. The church features a six-bay nave, aisles, a chancel, and a western tower, all designed in the "Decorated Gothic" style. The building has an embattled parapet with pinnacles at either end and a clerestory in the nave. The tower includes three-light bell openings and a traceried parapet with pinnacles. Inside, the church has an arcade supported by octagonal piers and a western gallery held up by round cast-iron columns and traceried brackets, although the galleries to the north and south were removed in 1929. The ceilings are square and panelled, adorned with bosses. There is a monument to Richard Croslier, created by Thomas Brock in 1888, which is in the form of a lunette depicting a corpse and mourners.
