Description
No. 7 Lower Church Street is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is built of brick on a cobbled plinth, with remnants of a timber frame, and has a Welsh slate roof. The house is two stories high and has a two-unit plan. The entrance is located to the left of center, framed by a wide architrave. To the right of the doorway is a three-light window, and further right is a blocked opening with a flat arched brick head. There is a blocked window to the left, along with two other windows, one with one light and another with three lights. The wall plate and a raising of the roof are visible above.
A prominent feature of the facade is the cyma moulded string course that runs across it, forming a round arch over the blocked lower opening and continuing across the gable wall, where it creates another round arch. The three-light window now in this arch was not originally related to it. Another string course creates an arch over the first-floor window in the gable wall. To the right of the front elevation, there is an additional lower timber-framed bay, featuring timbers of slight scantling that form square panels with arch braces. This bay has two new windows, one on each floor.
