Description
The Homestead is a house dating from the late 18th century, accompanied by a garden wall from the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with decorative bands and features a Swithland slate roof with brick end stacks. The house has three storeys and displays three 8/8 sash windows on the first and ground floors, with a 4/8 sash window on the second floor. On the ground floor, there is a tripartite arrangement of 1/1 sash windows flanking a central square brick porch that has a moulded stone font and a blocking course. The entrance features a six-panelled door with an overlight.
At the rear, there are wings, with two-storey extensions at either end. The left wing has an 8/8 sash window above a French window, while the right wing has an 8/8 sash window above a tripartite arrangement of 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sash windows. The windows throughout have slightly cambered lintels. A 1½ storey extension projects from the right wing, and from this extension, the garden wall extends forward to Ratcliffe Road and along the front of the house. The garden wall is made of stone-coped red brick, approximately 2 meters high, and features two breaks with piers for carriage gates and a corner arch for a pedestrian gate.
