Description

This house in the village of Rearsby appears to have originated as two dwellings, with the core of the structure dating to 1743. A slate dated with the initials "I over TA" indicates the earliest part of the building is located to the right of the front door. The property was subsequently raised and altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick on a rubble plinth, with a Welsh slate roof.

The right-hand two bays, displaying the original date slate, feature two 3-light horizontal sliding sash windows on the ground floor, each with a cambered brick head. Above them are two 2-light casements, also with cambered heads, sitting above a sill course which marks the original wall height. The front door, set within a coped gabled porch with a moulded wooden architrave, occupies the junction between the two building phases. To the left of the door are two taller bays constructed of brick with yellow brick headers, set slightly offset. These bays incorporate a 2-light casement window on the ground floor with a cambered head, and a small 2-light horizontal sliding sash window with old glass to the left. Three upper windows are 4-light sashes and punctuated by a moulded eaves cornice. To the left of these, a single-story range dating to the 19th century has a blocked doorway to the right with a cambered brick head, and an existing door to the left, also with a cambered brick head. Above the blocked doorway is a small window. Two 20-light windows are positioned to the left, with six central panes being opening.
