Description
Number 12, known as Moorhurst, is an 18th-century house that was altered and raised in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick on a granite plinth and has a Welsh slate roof. The house is two storeys tall and follows a two-unit plan, featuring a central door with a reeded architrave and a porch canopy supported by consoles, which carries a carved lion. The lower windows are three-light casements with an upper central opening light and cambered brick heads. The upper windows are three-light horizontally sliding sashes, also with cambered heads. The line where the building was heightened is clearly visible just above the level of the upper window sills. There are gable end stacks, and the rear roof slope maintains its original pitch, complete with a brick eaves cornice and a lower wing at the back.
Attached to the rear wall is a pump dated 1784. This wooden pump case stands about five feet high and features a shallow pedimented top with carving and one decorated panel below. It has a lead spout and plate that displays royal arms, the date, and the initials A over JB. This pump is reputed to be associated with Benskins the brewers, whose former brew house is connected to a nearby property.
