Description
The Old Rectory is a house dating from around 1740, constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high, featuring an attic and five bays that are symmetrically arranged. The central doorway is framed by a moulded wood architrave and has a flat canopy supported by consoles. The door includes glazed upper lights with heavy astragals. The windows are now four-light sashes, each with moulded wood architraves and flat splayed finely gauged brick heads that have painted keystones. A projecting painted string course runs along the building, and the stone coping to the parapet is complemented by a recessed roof that includes three dormers, which alternate between steeply triangular and segmental shapes.
Originally, the double pile plan included three windows on the side elevation, but two lower lights have been blocked; one has been converted into a lancet doorway, while one upper window is also blocked. The remaining windows are two-light casements with transoms. Inside, there is a fine contemporary staircase featuring three balusters per tread, with alternating turned and twisted designs, as well as plasterwork cornices.
