Description

Cotes Mill is a watermill that has been converted into a public house, with an attached house. The watermill dates from the 16th or 17th century, with possible earlier origins, and was altered and enlarged in the 19th century. The original structure is built of rubble stone with quoins and is now painted white. The north front features a blocked 2-light chamfered window on the ground floor, with 20th-century windows on the first floor that have hoodmoulds. The building was enlarged in brick, also painted white, and has a plain tile roof. There is a 20th-century weatherboarded gabled lucam on the north front. The east front includes a raised brick band and three 3-light cambered-headed windows. There are various 19th-century slate-roofed brick extensions to the north and east, along with a large 20th-century covered space to the west, which is not of architectural interest.

The house to the south of the mill dates from around 1830 and may have been recased. It is built of brick, painted white, with a slate roof and a canted plan. The two-storey house has a two-window range, featuring three-light windows with lozenge pattern glazing bars and margin lights. It also has a brick dentil cornice and a six-panel door on the left side, complete with a rectangular fanlight and a bracketed hood above.
