Description

Pipalipen House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating to the mid-18th century with later 18th century additions, and subject to 19th and 20th century alterations and additions. It is situated alongside former cottages, a cart shed and a barn. The house is constructed of brick with slate, plain tile, and corrugated iron roofs. The main house has a symmetrical three-bay, three-storey front, distinguished by dentillated eaves and two gable stacks. A central 20th-century concrete block porch features a studded plank door, flanked by three-light casement windows. Above these, a central two-light casement is flanked by larger three-light casements, all with segmental heads and keystones. Above again are two three-light strip casements, the left one with glazing bars. To the right of the main house is a former cottage with a first-floor band and gable stack. This cottage has three two-light casements on its front. Above, a three-light casement is situated to the right, all with segmental heads. The rear elevation features a close-boarded door flanked by a single two-light sliding sash window. Above, to the right, is a similar two-light sash. Beyond a carriage opening is a two-storey former cottage with a gable stack, containing a partly blocked unglazed opening to the right. The rear of this cottage features an off-centre basket arched doorway flanked to the left by a casement and beyond it, a door. To the right are two blocked openings, above which are three square unglazed openings. Further along the rear is a two-bay, two-storey stable with a loft, set at an angle, also with dentillated eaves. It has an off-centre unglazed window with a segmental head, flanked to the left by a blocked doorway and to the right by an altered doorway containing a hatch. Above is a two-light unglazed casement. The rear of the stable has a carriage opening and a door. To the right of the stable is a three-bay barn with dentillated eaves and a central hatch with a segmental head. To the right of the barn is a 19th-century addition with an unglazed casement flanked by single breathers. On the south side, facing the farmyard, are a pair of barn doors with a wooden lintel, flanked by single stable doors. Above this are external pulleys and a shaft to the left, and a loading door to the right.
