Description
A farmhouse with adjoining stable and cottage, dating to the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the mid-18th century and 19th century. The building is constructed of brick, with some fragments of timber framing, and has corrugated iron and slate roofs. Brick stacks rise from the ridge and gable. It is arranged as a roughly L-shaped plan, with two storeys and six unequal bays.
The north side of the house has a symmetrical front on the left, with a plinth and first-floor band. A central 19th-century four-panel door is flanked by single three-light sliding sash windows. Above, a gable is topped by a three-light sliding sash. All these openings have segmental brick arches with keystones. To the right is a flat-headed three-light sliding sash window. A late 18th-century addition is to the right, featuring a chamfered plinth, first-floor band, and dentillated eaves. A plank door is flanked to the right by a three-light casement window. Above is a blocked opening, all with segmental heads. To the right of a carriage entry is a 19th-century cottage with a single-bay, catslide-roofed addition. A 19th-century casement window is on the left, and another to the right, with a 20th-century three-light casement above the left one. A breather vent is also present. Under the carriage opening, to the right, is a close-boarded door with a segmental head and a hatch to its right. Above this is a plank loading door. A slatted opening is on the left, and the east side has a corner post with a three-light casement to its right, and a three-light sliding sash above, both with segmental heads.
The rear elevation has an off-centre close-boarded door flanked to the left by a plank door and to the right by a 20th-century two-light casement, all with segmental heads. A flat-roofed 20th-century porch is in the return angle. Above, to the left, is a 20th-century three-light casement.
The stable’s west front has a central close-boarded stable door flanked to the left by a plank door with slots and to the right by a 19th-century three-light tilting casement. Above to the left is a similar casement. The rear has two 20th-century pivoted casements. A single-storey stable is to the right, with an off-centre close-boarded stable door flanked by single, unglazed pivoted casements.
