Description
The Infirmary is a former infirmary built in 1884 for the Countesthorpe cottage homes by the Leicester Poor Law Union, designed by architect I. Baradale. It is constructed of brick with a hipped roof made of Welsh slate and features finials. The building has a symmetrical facade, with the central portion stepping forward and being single storey with an attic. The attic includes a hipped dormer window with carved timber cheeks and two-light casement windows. The roof has a nearly pyramidal shape with finials, and there are tall brick chimney stacks on either side of the dormer.
On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows with slate roofs, each containing narrow sash windows. Between the bays, there are two narrow single-light windows. Each side of the central portion has a single-storey wing with hipped roofs and finials, featuring four narrow windows on each side. There is a doorway on each side next to the central portion, each with a rectangular fan light, a brick arch, and a cambered brick head. The doors are half glazed with small panes. Additionally, there are two triangular slate roof louvres on each side of the roof.
