Description
The London Road Lodge Entrance Gates are early 19th century structures with 20th century alterations. They are built of red brick with stone dressings. The entrance features two square lodges at either end of a curtain wall, with central gates. The central gateway has octagonal stone piers topped with moulded cornices and 20th century iron gates. On either side, there are lower brick walls with coved eaves stringcourses that extend around the piers, and embattled stone parapets with ridgeback copings. Each wall has a chamfered flat-headed doorcase with a returned hood and an iron gate. Between the doorcases and the gate piers, there are single quoined, battered buttresses that rise to the height of the eaves. The lodges at either end have a central 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould, and they also feature embattled stone parapets with a coved stringcourse below. Currently, the lodges serve only as facades with side walls.
